The Earthen One

A cottagecore blog based in the English Countryside

Welcome to The Earthen One!

The Earthen One is a celebration of slowness, simplicity, and the tender joy of small things.

Rooted in the cottagecore aesthetic, this blog offers thoughtful reflections, homemade recipes, seasonal rituals, and musings from the English countryside. Whether you long for the scent of sun-warmed herbs or find comfort in the gentle scratch of pen on parchment, you are most warmly welcome here. Join me and Bellamy, my beloved dog, in our cosy natural retreat.

I live in a moss-covered cottage at the edge of a forest in the Cotswolds with my dog, Bellamy, and more books than shelves. This blog is my love letter to a quieter, gentler way of life. I hope, in some small way, it brings you peace.

Bellamy and Me

Bellamy came into my life on a misty October morning, a tiny tangle of fur left on the doorstep as if sent by the woods themselves. I had not planned on a companion, but he settled in as though he had always belonged — curling up in bread baskets, pawing at the hem of my apron, and claiming every sun-warmed windowsill as his own. We have been inseparable ever since.

On quiet afternoons, we often sit together in the garden — I with my book or knitting, Bellamy with his ears pricked to the wind, watching bees with a scholar’s attention. There is something grounding about his presence, a steady companionship that asks for nothing and offers everything. He reminds me daily to slow down and to delight in the ordinary.

People often ask if I feel lonely, living tucked away as I do. The honest answer is: not really. There is a deep richness to solitude when it’s chosen, and when it’s shared with creatures who speak without words. Bellamy is not just a pet — he is a guardian of the hearth, a muse, and a little heartbeat beside mine.
